If you are at a point in life where you really need a change, then keep reading.
If you feel trapped in your heart and mind, and you really feel like there is no way out, then these tips are for you.
Life is not always rosy, and there was a time when my mind was full of stress and worry. But I managed to turn my life around by applying these techniques that I’m about to share with you.
Before you start, there are three important things that I must point out:
- In order to set your day in a strong and positive way, this needs to be done first thing in the morning (before you check any emails or attend to the family’s needs or even work). It may involve having to wake up a few minutes earlier, but I promise you it will be worth it.
- Consistency and creating a habit is key, so it is important that this process is done daily.
- You need a quiet space, where you will not be distracted or disturbed.
Now that we’ve dealt with the necessary conditions, let’s dive into the morning routine!
Just before you get up for the day, list about ten to twenty things, in your mind, that are going right in your life. If you have the time, feel free to think about more.
Focus and spend more time on the ones that make your heart feel good. There is so much in life to feel good about, your health, your family, your home, the food on your table, your friends, your job, your neighbourhood, your local park.
The list is endless, so open your mind and welcome these thoughts and feelings of appreciation. At first, they may not come easily, but give it time and as the days go by and as you become more comfortable and at ease with this task, your mind will become more relaxed and naturally allow more positive thoughts to enter.
Meditate for at least five minutes. If you are new to meditation, start with an easy five minutes to calm the mind. Increase the duration when you feel ready.
Sit up and keep a straight back. With your eyes closed, pay attention to your breath. If you do not feel comfortable closing your eyes, then keep them open.
Now, try to keep your focus on the breath. Breathe naturally. Don’t try to force yourself to breathe deeper or slower or anything like that. Just breathe as you normally would.
Some people find it helpful to count their breaths. This helps them to focus better.
You can count them in groups (of four or so). So breathe in slowly, and breathe out, slowly. That’s one. Now do the second, the third, the fourth, and then go back to one.
It is perfectly fine if thoughts come into your mind, just gently guide them away and focus on your breath.
Meditation can be seen like learning how to walk. At first, we are not so good, but if we practice and do not give up, we will get better.
Another tip is to not take it so seriously. It’s just a practice. It’s no big deal if you get distracted. Keep it light and easy. Some days, meditation will be easy and go smoothly and some days, you may struggle. Stay with it. This is the nature of meditation and almost everyone struggles on some days.
Set an intention that today is going to be a good day for you. Close your eyes and say, ‘Thank you for my wonderful day’. Saying ‘thank you’ in advance helps set your day up to be a positive and enjoyable one.
We have all been through worries and stresses and it is time to change. It is time to learn to cope with it in better ways. It is time to release the fear and welcome the new you. The ‘you’ who will take more care of your thoughts and words in order to make positive changes in your life.
Try these simple techniques for 30 days consistently and enjoy the change in your life.
